AEROGELS

WHAT IS AN AEROGEL?

Aerogel flame.jpg

By definition, an aerogel is an open-celled, mesoporous, solid foam that is composed of a network of interconnected nanostructures that exhibits a porosity (non-solid volume) of no less than 50%.  Aerogel is the world’s lowest density solid material (0.0011-0.5 g/cm3).  1000 times less dense than glass, it is the world’s lightest solid material.  Aerogels are derived from gel where the gel has been replaced with air, making it on average 95-99% air by volume.

Aerogels are a high-tech, ultra-low density, hydrophobic, low thermal conductivity super-insulator used in many industries, the largest being the resource sector (oil & gas, LNG, and cryogenics).  Their high K values outperform all other insulating materials, providing superior thermal conductivity in cold and high-temperature applications.  Waterproof and fireproof, they are a low-cost super-insulator that delivers the lowest total cost of ownership in industrial applications.

AEROGEL ADVANTAGES

  • The hydrophobic yet breathable nature of aerogels provides a cost-effective solution to CUI (corrosion under insulation).

  • Many times thinner than other insulating materials, aerogels reduce cladding materials, reduce pipe installation footprints, lower total installation weight, all of which reduces total structural requirements.

  • Reusable, it provides lower cost maintenance.

  • Fireproof, it eliminates the need for an additional product over the pipe insulation to provide fire protection.

  • Delivering fast and easy installation.  It cuts easily with a standard utility knife.  It installs 75% faster than traditional Foamglas.

  • Quick install, waterproof, fireproof and reusable, aerogels provide the lowest total cost of ownership in providing thermal protection in piping installations.

Aerogels Reimagined:  Innovative Aerogel Technology providing the Lowest Total Cost of Ownership

AlkeGel vs. Competing Aerogels:

  • Completely inert to human physiology, our aerogel blankets can be installed without use of PPE (no need for Tyvek suits or respirators).

  • 80% Less Dust

  • 5 Times more Uniform Thermal Conductivity

AlkeGel vs. Fiberglass:

  • Thermal conductivity that is 10 times lower than rigid fiberglass (24 times lower than fiberglass blankets)

Made in the USA

Our flagship product, AlkeGel, is the newest innovation in aerogel technology.  Utilizing a propriety manufacturing technique, the aerogel powder is infused into glass fiber-enhanced blankets at time of production, resulting in an aerogel blanket that contains 80% less dust, and provides 5 times more uniform thermal conductivity (no hot / cold spots) than other aerogel products currently available.

AEROGEL PRODUCTS are available in the following formats:

  • Blankets / Rolls

  • Pads & Patterns: Rolls CNC cut into pads, patterns and shapes for fast and easy field installation

AEROGEL PRODUCTS are available for the following applications:

  • Cold & Cryogenic Applications: AlkeGel Ice

  • High Temperature Applications: AlkeGel Fyre

TELOS AEROGEL PRODUCTS deliver the Lowest Total Cost of Ownership:

  • Shipped pre-cut into pads and patterns for fast, easy installation (no field cutting)

  • 75% faster installation time than Foamglas

  • 80% thinner, reducing cladding material requirements and providing smaller piping installation footprint, resulting in lower total piping installation weight and lower total structure support engineering requirements

  • Reusable, it provides longer product life and lower maintenance costs

  • Hydrophobic and breathable, it prevents CUI

  • No contraction / expansion joints

  • Fireproof, it eliminates need for addition products for fire protection (lower cost, lower weight, small installation footprint)
